Lobster Recipes Boiled Lobster Tails

Boiling live lobsters is the most popular method of preparing whole lobsters. Fill a large pot with water and 2 tablespoons of sea salt for every 2 quarts of water. Be sure the pot is large enough to fit the entire lobster. If you live near the ocean, fill the pot with salt water instead. The salt is important, otherwise your lobster will come out tough.

Ingredients

  • 2 live lobsters
  • 3 gallons salt water (see above for salt/water ratio)
  • 2 large onions, quartered
  • 10 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 lemons, sliced
  • 2 oranges, sliced
  • 5 stalks celery, chopped
  • 6 fresh jalapeno peppers, chopped

Cooking Directions

  1. Pour the water into a large pot and add the onions, garlic, lemons, oranges, celery and jalapeno peppers.
  2. Bring to a full rolling boil and boil for 20 minutes to let the flavors mix.
  3. Add the lobsters and cover.
  4. Boil about 15 minutes. (NOTE: You'll typically boil 10 minutes + 3 minutes for every pound over 1 pound. See How to Cook Lobster for more info).
  5. Remove lobsters from pot and cool.
  6. Serve!
