Crab Recipes Fried Soft-Shell Crab in Beer Batter

Many people like to deep fry their soft-shell crabs with a tasty batter. Here is a simple batter recipe, but feel free to vary up your batter ingredients, such as using a breadcrumb mixture instead of batter.

Ingredients

  • 4 soft-shell crabs, cleaned (how to clean soft-shell crab)
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup beer
  • 1 cup flour
  • 4 cups oil for frying, or as needed
  • Seasonings to taste (such as garlic powder, onion powder, etc)
  • salt and pepper to taste

Cooking Directions

  1. Heat oil in a deep fryer to 365 degrees F (180 degrees F).
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together egg and beer.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine flour with salt and pepper and other dry seasonings.
  4. Dip crab in the flour mixture, dip in the egg, then in the flour mixture again.
  5. Set crabs into the deep-fryer and fry 1 to 2 minutes, or until crabs are golden brown on one side.
  6. Turn crabs and cook until golden on the other side.
  7. Drain and serve!
