Fried Soft-Shell Crab in Beer Batter
Many people like to deep fry their soft-shell crabs with a tasty batter. Here is a simple batter recipe, but feel free to vary up your batter ingredients, such as using a breadcrumb mixture instead of batter.
Ingredients
- 4 soft-shell crabs, cleaned (how to clean soft-shell crab)
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup beer
- 1 cup flour
- 4 cups oil for frying, or as needed
- Seasonings to taste (such as garlic powder, onion powder, etc)
- salt and pepper to taste
Cooking Directions
- Heat oil in a deep fryer to 365 degrees F (180 degrees F).
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together egg and beer.
- In a separate bowl, combine flour with salt and pepper and other dry seasonings.
- Dip crab in the flour mixture, dip in the egg, then in the flour mixture again.
- Set crabs into the deep-fryer and fry 1 to 2 minutes, or until crabs are golden brown on one side.
- Turn crabs and cook until golden on the other side.
- Drain and serve!
